For more than 45 years in the U.S. market, Toyota has built rugged and reliable pickup trucks; for the past 16 years, the Tacoma has been one of them. It’s the best-selling compact pickup since 2005**, and for 2011 it offers even more value and variety.

The list includes a new special package available in limited quantities and for a limited time only. The T/X Package, offered with the Off-Road Extra Value Package, adds just the right blend of edgy good looks and Toyota Racing Development (TRD) performance: 16-inch TRD beadlock-style alloy wheels with wheel locks; stainless steel exhaust tip; graywood dash; black step tubes; and special T/X graphics.

All Tacoma models are based on three cab types—Regular Cab, Access Cab and the four-door Double Cab—that can be paired with one of four packages: Convenience, SR5, TRD Off-Road and TRD Sport. The X-Runner performance truck (Access Cab) also returns this year; it’s equipped with the 4.0-liter V6 with a specially tuned chassis and is paired exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission. Added to the line for 2011 are five 4-cylinder engine variants, all paired with the 4-speed automatic transmission.

There’s also a slate of new amenities for added comfort. The well-equipped Regular Cab 4×2 now has standard air conditioning; full-size spare tire; six-speaker AM/FM/CD audio system; tachometer; digital clock; two instrument panel powerpoints with a lighter; dome lamp; and rear mudguards. Regular Cab 4×4 models with the automatic transmission feature standard bucket seats. Tacoma Access and Double Cab models also get more standard features this year, including power windows and door locks, bucket seats and a center console.

In the Double Cab, power mirrors and driver’s seat adjustable lumbar support are also now standard. Models with the six-disc CD changer include an integrated satellite radio. And there’s an available Convenience Extra Value Package for Double Cab models, adding cruise control, a sliding rear window with privacy glass, remote keyless entry and steering wheel audio controls.

The Tacoma comes with a choice of two highly efficient engines: the standard 2.7-liter DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder with VVT-i and 159 horsepower, or the available 236-horsepower 4.0-liter DOHC 24-valve V6 with VVT-i. For more information, visit your local Toyota dealer or www.toyota.com/tacoma.
